of gets me that they are playing badly. Throwing away their time and money. But as someone on this forum said to me 'that's how the casinos make their money.' Then we get to take it!

I've coached many players in private lessons. I can tell you with certainty that many of them do know better, but just refuse to heed what they've learned. Very, very few zebras ever change their stripes.
The other day a newbie was playing with a BS card in front of him. He'd check the card every 5th or 10th hand. When he was dealt A/7 vs 9, he looked at his card -- twice -- then paused with a grimace and waived the dealer off. When the hand was over, I quietly said, "Your card." He replied, "I'm not doin' that one"
Its a casino, its a place where a majority of people come to play out their vices....and not just gambling. I don't judge the bad player nor the casino that seemingly takes advantage of them. Everybody has a story about the tough luck players or the seedy casino raking poor souls for all they have. Not me....I don't get attached to any of the nonsense. To be honest it means no more to me than the sidewalk that I walk on, it barely registers a thought in my head as I walk on it, but the sidewalk is just like the the poor players and mean casino, my life would be a much tougher haul without them all doing exactly what they are put there to do.
Lots of civilians have trouble with soft doubles, they are amazed when your A7 double wins and just keep going on and on with "I sure wouldn't do that". Five minutes later they're pulling the wallet out buying more chips while blaming the dealer for their losses.
They can not accept the idea of losing the hand to make a better play,it hurts too much. They rather try to hope for a dealer bust or a win with their a/7 against a ten - up, rather than having a chance of turning it into a worst hand. i know because I have played that way long ago ,and have been told by others to play that way. i am speaking from a plop's view.
