    newbie: backbet or open box

In Australian shoe games, each box can have 3 bets in it. The front bet makes the play decision.

My question is how many box should I play when there are 1 (or 2) other basic strategy player at the table. That is I have the choice to open more box and therefore eating up more cards, or backbet other player and sacrifies the gain from variation play.

    I use hi-lo.

    Thanks.

Interesting question. I think you will lose too much by forfeiting the right to make all play variations, simply to avoid opening one more box. Play your own hand!

When the front bet splits a pair, are you obliged to put up an extra bet as well, or can you opt to play only one of the hands? If the latter, I understand you can get an off-the-top advantage (assuming good other conditions) if you act as a BP behind a teammate who is putting up the front bet. The technique is detailed in Ian Andersen's _Burning the Tables in Las Vegas_.
