Orson: 5 card charlie
Wong's books ("Basic BJ" and Professional BJ") cover basic strategy and Hi-Lo counting strategy for the rule when a player can accept a bonus of half a bet when his hand consists of five cards. However, it is obviously calculeted for American rules (dealer has a hole card). Also, there is not specified an exact edge for BS player with this rule. My question is, what is the value of this rule with hole card and ENHC rules, and what would be the necessary strategy adjustments for the ENHC rule? For example, it is quite obvoius that it should be better to accept a half bet with 20 vs. dealer's Ace, if dealer still has a chance to end up with a blackjack. Other positions that might have some difference with ENHC rule include 21 vs. Ace and 20 - 21 vs. 10.
Any help will be appreciated.

An example will suffice for ENHC , lose all vs. dealer?s BJ.
2, 3,4,5,6 vs A = .136302
2, 3,4,5,7 vs A = .319885
2, 3,4,5,6 vs T = .431868
2, 3,4,5,7 vs T = .809081
Therefore, refuse the bonus when holding a 5 card 21 vs dealer?s ten. Accept it otherwise. A big difference with Wong?s charts, as you see.
Do not expect big differences with other 5 cards composition-dependent hands.
We always have to ?translate?, but what?
Hope this helps

Orson: Thanks, but...
...does anyone (masters, masters!) know the addition to the BS edge from this rule?

Mister M: Re: 5 card charlie
Can you or anyone else please tell me what the advantage is if a 5 card hand is an automatic winner against everything apart from a dealer bj.
Rules 3.0/4,enhc,doa.
Also how does this affect the count stategy? Count is Zen.

If I?m reading you correctly you are facing the following rules:
4dks, S17, DOA, DAS,RSA and ENHC
Without the special bonus
BSE = -.382
Now if your 5 card holding is an automatic winner except vs. a dealer's BJ,
I run a little simulation and got this:
WR = .693 SE = .014
The player is flat betting the shoe and playing BS, of course.
So your total gain for this wonderful bonus seems to be:
.693 + .382 = 1.075%
In Basic BJ, Wong predicts a 1.4% advantage for the player, when your 5 card hand
is an automatic winner against everything, so as you see this figure looks in the range
of a distinct probability for this particular case.
In the event, they won?t let you DAS or RSA, don?t be so optimistic, naturally.
Hope this helps

Mister M: Re: 5 card charlie
Thank you very much for the information.
DAS is available as is DOA.
After many complaints regarding the ENHC rule of lose all to a natural, the casino in question now offers a 2.1 bonus on a pair of aces as customer enticement.
