Titaniumman: Could one of the Masters answer this question

by bjcounter2002 on the South & West page? It's a bit misplaced, so it's not getting any attention.

I have a question for deviations based on "match play" coupons. For anyone not familiar with match play coupons, they are basically casino matched vouchers equalling your bet i.e. $20 of your money $20 via voucher. However, they typically pay even money on the match play portion of the bet on a BJ, and you can't double down the match play portion of your bet.
My question is how to deviate from BS doubling rules based on a 8 deck,H17,LS,DAS game. I am assuming because you are effectively "doubling for less" that you don't double the borderline
doubles such as soft doubles i.e. A4 vs 4. Additionally, if you surrender your bet, you lose the entire match play coupon and half of your own wager. So, naturally, there is no incentive to surrender. Can anyone help me with the strategy in this situation? Thanks.

    With appreciation,

James has written a long article on this type of scenario, which I haven't seen yet. It is to be published in the upcoming BJF.

James is sometimes hard to track down, because he plays a lot. We haven't heard from him in a while, but when he checks in, I'll make sure that he sees this.

I'll assume the following: (1) Doubles and splits allow additional money to match live money only, but the coupon amount cannot be backed up; (2) Coupon is retained on a push; (3) BJ pays 3:2 on live money, but 1:1 on coupon; (4) 6-deck S17/H17 DOA DAS RS4 NoRSA.

8-decks is not a significant change.

Changes to BS are (S17 listed preceding slash; PC means sPlit hand containing Coupon):

    11 v. A H; A2 v. 5 H; A2 v. 6 H/D; A3 v. 5 H/D; A4 v. 4 H; A7 v. 2 S; A7 v. 3 S/DS; A8 v. 6 S.

    DAS: 22 v. 8 PC; 33 v. 8 PC; 44 v. 5 H; 44 v. 6 H/P; 66 v. 7 PC; 77 v. 8 PC; 99 v. A S/PC.

This $10 match-play coupon that backs up $10 live money is worth $4.71 in expectation.

No surrenders with the implementation you mention. Using BS instead of the optimal coupon strategy costs you very little.

Oops, sorry about the deleted post. I screwed up.

Thanks JM. I took the liberty of copy & pasting your answer on South & West.

    Thanks to ya'll, too, Don.

That singular "ya'll" just plain doesn't work.

You might be better off using it somewhere else in the casino.Willi.

Mr. Lucky: Aren't there a few others

such as hitting 10 vs. 9, 9 vs. 3, and standing on A7 vs. 3?

    My post does say to stand on A7 v. 3 in a S17 game, but double in H17 game. I get 10 v. 9 D and 9 v. 3 D.
