HOLLYWOOD: I have a question
Don is correct, you never get killed at a BJ table flat betting 1 chip at a time. It's only when the count is decidedly in your favor and you have your higher bets in the box. If during those times the dealer is finding that extra 4 or 5 when hitting 16 15 etc. This all going on while the count is plus a zillion. That determines what kind of night your having.
Which is what brings me to my question.
I was sitting In AC tonight, at a table (for Atlantic City) I have never seen better PEN levels.
They were hardly taking off a dcck in a 6 deck game. Much, Much better then I have always been used to their. Well needless to say I couldn't get arrested. This dealer and her replacement, were taking turns sticking pins in a little doll they were holding that locked like me.
Now, they were beating me up pretty bad, but I was looking around at the other tables and no one was operating with the kind of pen levels that were going on at the table I was getting murdered at.
So, I made a concious decision to stay at the table with the good pen, even though I was not doing well.
The other dealers were operating at 70%.
I alway feel that Pen is most important.
So did I do the right thing by staying at that table???????? Because she was cutting with the best pen.
Or, because she was killing me, should I have gone to another table or hotel and sacrafice the the PEN.
I always felt that the knowledge of deck substance was foremost. Well, I left fully beaten up tonight. Lost alot. Still up substantially for the year. It all comes out in the wash

anon: pen vs luck
this is a simple question. so simple that even i, clearly not a master of 21 can answer.
you got the best of it and lost, bad luck.
if you were home on your computer and set up the same game and lost, would you move the computer to another room? no.
same thing. if you could stay at the table forever you would also have good luck and things would work out.

Well, that's exactly what I did. I stayed I lost and I moved on. In the end I was fine with it, because I did what I was supposed to.
I kind of just checked it off as one of those days. It just fustrates the hell out of you.
However, I keep a log book on dealers. I will certainly go looking for this one again.
As always thanks for the feedback.

MathProf: Cheating Caution
I don't think this applies to your situation. You indicated that you were at AC, which is highly regulated. In addition, I think they only have Shoe games there.
However, if you were at a Pitch game, you have to consider that you may have been cheated. Suppose that a casino has a mechanic, which they use to cheat counters, among other things. What do you think this mechanic would do? Deal much deeper than the other dealers, to attract the counter to that table and to keep them there. Then beat there heads in with false dealing.
If a pitch dealer gives very deep penetration, but you can't win against him/her, be aware of the possibility of cheating. I don't think that this is enough to write off that dealer and casino, but it is a factor to be considered. Watch the dealers motions more carefully to see if you can detect anything unusual. If you are not very good this (I am not myself), then see if you can get a colleague to watch for you. Also check out the general reputation of the casino, etc.

Dont worry, Just post whats on your mind, let it out! this is the best B.J site for that reason, I have asked many simple questions that Don and others have probably answered 30 or 40 times over and still received a thorough explanation. Remember there are no stupid questions only stupid answers. Besides sometimes new or strange questions add a fresh sense to the game.
