    Hollywood: I received my forum today

    and I have a small question.

    Under table conditions in AC when you look at the Penetration column what does the V stand for.

    When you look in the beginning, it says Pen codes are
    B. Bad
    G. Good
    U. Unexceptional
    I'm certain i'm missing something very obvious, but I can't see it.

    Thanks,

    Hollywood

    I would venture to guess that V stands for Variable.

    "V" has always stood for variable. Maybe, for some reason, it was left out of the legend. I don't have my issue yet. We New Yorkers get our copies about a week after the rest of the country!

    Born and raised in the heart of little italy (mott street) You see, we're almost neighbors.

    Many thanks to you and Mike. I did not know about variable.

    That being the case, I'd like to register a formal complaint with Viktor that you got your issue before me! :-)

    My understanding of the penetration codes:

    b=<67%
    u=67-75%
    g=>75%
    v=varies

    hope this helps

    Michael Belgard: Unexceptional Penetration

    On Trackjack, we use the term mediocre. Either term means that although the penetration is not as bad as can be found elsewhere, better penetration can also be found in other places.

    Unexceptional or mediocre pen is usually considered to be about 65 to 75%. For example, if 1.5 decks were routinely cut off of a 6 deck game, we would label this as mediocre pen.

    Is there any particular reason why the actual estimate of penetration, as a percent, even if it is a range, rather than a single number, can't be used?

    I think it would be less confusing.

    I have been asking this same question for a couple of weeks without a response. Now because you have asked the same question, maybe, maybe we can get an answer.

    A percise number would be less confusing, for me anyway. I do like this feature about CBJN. How penetration is reported is the primary concern wheather or not to subcribe to Trackjack. As Trackjack currently reports penetration I am not interested. The other positives of trackjack do not overcome the the confusing and subjective reporting of penetration.

    Arnold has reported pen in this fashion for the entire existence of BJF, so it is understandable that those who now run Trackjack would follow that lead.

    But, it is not the best way to report pen, and perhaps it can be changed.

    See an additional comment, above.

    I think the bottom line should always be not what has been the "philosophy" of one publication or another, but rather what forward-looking course of action is most receptive and responds best to the requests and needs of the clients who are using the product.
