Just some trivia-
The column on the left list some casinos which I've played at, which have closed. The 2nd column lists casinos or businesses which now exist on their old sites. Mr. X: Re: Closed Casinos trivia
I enjoyed Bronco's comments.
Here are the answers, with a few more comments-
1. Castaways - Mirage - Theme of Giligan's Island would go through my head when I'd pass it.
2.Dunes - Bellagio
Built an addition called The Oasis,
connected to main casino. Lasted a few years, then torn down.
O Anus, I like that, Bronco!
3.Flamingo Capri - Imperial Palace
Major flooding problems during
thunderstorms. 1st place I ever
played, 12-26-75. (I usually play alone, but on my 1st trip, went with 4 friends. One room, 2 beds. I slept on the floor for a few hours. Ahh, my starving college student days!)
I believe the Capri's original "garden apartment" rooms still stand.
4. Mint - Horseshoe
Their parking garage hosted a car chase
in a James Bond movie (the one with Jimmy
Dean, and the Whyte House)
5. Centerfold - World's Largest Gift Shop
Topless dancers in the back.
I had been under the mistaken impression the dealers were topless. I made a special trip, and was disappointed to see a bunch of old men dealers.
6. Park - Main Street Station
Named after Korean owner.
I believe it was a Holiday Inn several years before that.
7. Foxy's Firehouse - Holy Cow
They blitzed I-15 with a large
number of corny "Burma Shave" ads in 1976.
8. Mr. Sy's - CBS Sportsworld (I think)
Free beef stew. Can you say "riff raff"?
Even I was never desperate enough to come here for their stew. Also known as "Mr. Sy's Casino of Fun". And after Mr. Sy's, it became a casino with an Indian as a symbol, forgot the name. That lasted a few months. Then, it became the Peppermill for a little longer.
9.Vegas World - Stratosphere
One word- Stupak
10. Sundance West - Mermaids (I think)
Used to be a downtown dive named
"Gamblers Hall of Fame"
I didn't play here much, but I remember it being between Binions and the Plaza. But I read a few things which made me believe that it was where Fitzgeralds is now. But I found a fairly definitive piece on the internet that places it at Mermaids, where I originally thought it was.
11.Marina - MGM
Wong "party" exploited their
funbook for hundreds per book.
Bronco is right, part of an expensive wing still stands.
12. Silver Slipper - New Frontier
Owned by Howard Hughes
