Hollywood: DEALER SAYS "You really don't want

to sit here" How do you handle that? I walked up to a table in the pit last sat. night and the dealer (who is alone, with her cards layed out face up in front of her) says to me. "You really don't want to sit here tonight. I just chased 3 guys. I can't do anything wrong". What do you say to that? I said, "oh well i'll give it a shot, maybe they took all your luck." With that she says "no problem, I just thought I would warn you in advance". I sit down anyway, and she takes the first 6 hands in a row, makes 21 out of 3 hands she should have busted at. I said, "is that what you were talking about"? she says, "YEP". I say,"thanks for the warning" I leave and go to another table. Do my fellow gamblers think I should have run for cover when she first said it? I'm sure this has happened to many of you, because it is not the first time it has happened to me. Give me some feedback.

But some dealers are lazy and prefer to stand rather than to deal. So, they try to discourage you from playing on their game. Others find the time passes more quickly if they are working, and would rather deal than do nothing. Finally, some are sincere, are superstitious, and believe that if they've just pounded several players, they're likely to pound you too.

Bottom line: you do whatever you want.

...on the above ("Some dealers are lazy and prefer to stand rather than to deal. So, they try to discourage you from playing on their game."), let me point out to Hollywood that there's always the possibility that the dealer is cheating. That possibility is remote but is is there. However, you can be absolutely certain that a dealer who is going to cheat will not warn you !..

So, even if dealer cheating was on your mind, the advice given is solid : You do whatever you want.

    One_More_Shoe: Stay and Play

I see this quite often where I play.

It gives me such a rare opportunity to play head on with
the dealer that I welcome it with open arms. More often than
not, I do quite well. In fact when the dealer warns me off,
I simply say: "I usually do well in this situation, so I'll
give it a shot, but thanks for the warning".

At a busy casino, sometimes this is the ONLY way to play alone with the dealer. Unfortunately, once one sits down, it tends
    to attract HERDS of PLOPPIES!!!!!

    Best of luck
