Jeff: Heat at the MGM
I was in LV last month. Playing at a $5 table at the MGM I
started getting some strange heat. I had been betting $5 for
45min or so when the count jumped high and I started betting
$40-$50. The pit boss started standing by our table. Then I noticed she was writing down a short note every time I bet (other people were getting up and sitting down so I knew it was me.) I started adjusting my betting in a conservative fashion to just look like an average gambler. She continued this short note taking after each bet for 20min before I cashed in. I figure she thought I could be counting, was not sure, and just wanted to apply a little heat to see if I would leave. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

98%: That does sound a bit strange
Yes, that is certainly unusual heat. Allow me to hypothesize:
The way I understand it, if you get nailed at the MGM it will be by their ace watching from the eye. All reports I've heard about this guy indicate he is the top counter catcher in Las Vegas. But, your experience is strange, especially given that you were spreading from $5-$50 at the MGM! I wouldn't expect you to get ANY heat at that level. My only guess is that she was tracking your play. Perhaps the eye can't be bothered to look over every nickel spreader in the joint and, as such, that job falls to the floor people. I have seen casino surveillance manuals which require the entry of a change in count and a bet level for each hand dealt and then an analysis of the data at the conclusion of the observation period...only that seems a bit low-budget for the MGM.
My suggestion is to not go back to that shift for a little while and you will undoubtedly be forgotten.
