Bettie: Bodog Gambling Site Shut Down By Feds

The gambling website Bodog, one of the most successful Internet sports betting outlets, has been shut down by federal authorities in Baltimore, Md.
Indicted by the U.S. Attorneys in Baltimore were four Canadians, including the company?s founder Calvin Ayre. Officials said they also froze the bank accounts of 75 companies affiliated with the organization. They will be seeking as much as $3 billion in fines and restitutions, they said.
Investigators said gamblers in Maryland and elsewhere sent at least $100 million by wire and check to Bodog outlets from 2005 to 2012. Also, they charged that Bodog has spent some $42 million in advertising to attract U.S. gamblers.
