Bettie: Casino Bull$hit
Below is a link to a perfectly interesting article on different ways people try to cheat the casinos. Nothing to do with card counting, and yet the author throws in a completely out-of-place paragraph about how people are fascinated with beating the casino and that card-counting is one way to do that.
They do point out that it's not illegal, but I swear that paragraph just doesn't seem to fit and there's no need to bring up card-counting at all. If I were an editor - oh wait! I am - I can think of three different ways to mention people's fascination with beating the casino that flow much better than this. It just makes me mad that someone had to throw that in because most people won't read carefully enough and will only end up remembering that card-counting was mentioned in an article on casino cheating.
Oh, and check out the sidebar, which states: Card counting is an area of concern to casinos because much of what they do can appear to be cheating, says Jerry Markling, the chief of the Nevada Gaming Control Board's enforcement division. "Rarely do you have one person on a table counting cards. You tend to have teams," Markling says. Casino security detains people who appear to be cheating.
This is just a nice way of being warned that if you are counting cards, they have an excuse (using your brain makes you "appear" to be cheating) to detain you. What crap. Never in my life have I appeared to be cheating, even while throwing signals. I don't keep my hand near my bet (to change it), I don't fiddle with the cards (to switch them with someone), and I don't make any move which was described as cheating in the article.
There's my rant for the day! Thanks for listening!
