    sailor: Question for Parker

I will be in Vegas in September and will stay at the Golden Nugget. I am a red chipper who uses KO and plays exclusively 1D/2D. I plan on playing at LVC, HS, EC, Fitz, 4Q, Plaza, and possibly MSS. Do you agree with my choices, and do you have any other recommendations.

    Thanks in advance.

Just back from Vegas and can comment on your choices. I am also a red chipper using KO, 1-6 spread. On DD the pen is pretty universally bad (50-60%), so I won't mention it. All games H17 except the Plaza DD. At LVC & Plaza they've changed the cut card notch to give worse pen.

LVC no DAS on DD, the SD varies from $10-25 minimum.
HS I won't play here anymore. The last time I did they limited your max bet to 4X your first bet ON A SIX DECKER. I did stroll through, the SD is $25 min.
EC all $5 min now, SD still 3:2, DD using cut card for best pen downtown and DAS.
Fitz I don't play here anymore either because the last 2 trips they didn't have a DD game under $10 min. Used to have DAS.
4Q still my favorite game, 2 tables SD $5 min. $2 six-decker. No DAS on DD.
    Plaza no DAS, S17.
MSS same as other Boyd properties (Cal, Fremont, Sam's) - DD no DAS. I like playing at the Cal better. Love them Hawaiian babes.
I also played at the Western for the 1st time in years - $5 SD, $3 DD.

Since I usually play an hour or less at each place, I end up hitting all the above downtown joints at least once during a trip. If you go off-strip you can get a better game. Both AZ Charlies and Boulder Station have DAS on DD, maybe RSA I don't recall. If you're not driving you can take the Sam's shuttle & the CAT down Boulder Hwy. I didn't make it to any other places this trip, but understand Coasts may have a DAS DD game.

I had fun, broke even playing 4 nights. I always do a strip run to play the WinCards promo at Circus & Excalibur ($15 for $10 every 30 days) and play any other coupons I have. WinCards every 6 months at Westin and Tuscany also, 4Q has it only one time. $4.95 steak dinner at Ellis Island with $5 matchplay on placemat. Terribles no longer has Tues BJ tourney, they do offer DAS on their DD.

Conditions downtown have been deteriorating the last couple years, so by Sept this info may be out of date. Enjoy your trip and good luck.

    Parker: Thanks, Jay

Not a whole lot I can add to Jay's excellent advice. On a recent stay downtown, I found that real (meaning 3:2 BJ payout) single deck games are becoming an endangered species, with only the EC offering more than one or two tables. Double deck is usually the better choice, since the few SD tables tend to be crowded and closely watched.

With the double deck games, the challenge is to find good pen, as well as being aware that many downtown casinos do not allow DAS on their double deck games, making pen even more important, and calling for a more agressive spread.

    Good cards!

    Thanks for your comments.

Since my last visit in Vegas two years ago, it seems more and more difficult to find a good game. Back then, the best 2D was at the Plaza and Fitz, and the best 1D was at LVC, 4Q, and EC, although I was backed off at EC.

I prefer to play where the minimum is $5. Looks like I will have to play EC and 4Q for 1D and check out LVC, Plaza, and the Boyd properties for 2D.

I will write a trip report when I get back.

    Thanks Jay.

Looks like I will be playing 1D at EC and 4Q, and 2D at LVC, Plaza and possibly the Boyd properties.

The conditions weren't great when I was in Vegas two years ago, and it seems that they have gotten worse.

I will write a trip report when I get back.
