Bettie: It's official - Spacey filiming adaptation of Mezrich's book

Kevin Spacey told MTV he's producing and starring in a film about a group of card-counting college kids who take on Las Vegas, so I'm guessing that this is an adaptation of Mezrich's Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions.

This movie could be a great vehicle to educate the public about gimmicks such as 6-5, CSMs and other bastardizations of the game.
What if at the end of the movie there was a trailer that said: In the years since the MIT team took on Las Vegas, some casinos have taken steps to make their games virtually unbeatable. Games such as short-pay 6-5 blackjack and continuous shuffle machines cannot be beaten, even by professionals. But as the saying goes, there's a sucker born every minute.......

Boos and hisses from the audience. The unmasking of these horrible games to a gigantic audience of people who are interested in gambling. What a nightmare for the casinos!

I'm sure there will be members of the blackjack playing community asked to consult on this movie. Seems like this would be a good suggestion for someone to make. The only problem might be if the movie company is already in bed with the casino industry, which very well could be.

Norm Wattenberger: Ups and downs of the movie biz

The first director of the project dropped out to direct XMen 3. The second director dropped out to make Steve Martin's Pink Panther. But the third dropped out of the Jennifer Lopez verson of Dallas to direct "21," the new name for the Mezrich project. I wish they'd get on with it.
