Bettie: Get "Dirty" in Las Vegas

I thought that might get some people's attention (perverts!).

One of my favorite shows, "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel, will air an episode on Las Vegas locations tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 10pm local time. If you haven't seen this show, you really should check it out. The host (a handsome Marlboro-man-type for all you ladies out there) tries his hand at various dirty jobs. He's laid concrete, worked on an alligator farm, inseminated cows, removed bees, worked in sewers, etc. The host is funny, the situations are funny, and it really makes you appreciate the crap work that some people do so that we can live in a "civilized" society.

Tomorrow's episode will feature the job of bird wrangler backstage at the Lance Burton show, as well as a stint on a local pig farm that recycles leftover casino food for it's animals.

I really liked this episode, but only for the second half (or two-thirds, really). While the bird wrangling job was interesting, I'd read about it before in the paper and the job wasn't dirty enough and the segment wasn't funny enough to hold my interest.

Heading on out to RC pig farm, however, was hysterical. I think that must have been the most disgusting of all of the jobs he's done (more so than inseminating cattle!), and it was really interesting to see the bagel I'd left on my plate at the GVR buffet the night before float on top of the garbage food stew that fed the pigs I'd be eating the next night at the MGM buffet (or something like that). The guy who owned the farm was fun, too. He took all the silliness in stride and got in a few good jokes on the host.

Overall, there are better episodes, but that segment was among the best. I hope that I turned a few of you on to this show. I only wish my job were dirtier so I'd have an excuse to bring the show here. Unfortunately, the closest it comes to dirty is the dust in the warehouse. Then there's the mess on my desk, but that only qualifies me for an appearance on "Clean Sweep"!

    Don Schlesinger: I did!

Saw the whole show. It's hard for me to believe that the guy who owns the farm goes through this routine every day of his life.

    Not to be believed!

You actually think that someone who does what he does for a living could conceivably be normal???
