sdplayer: Imperial Palace v Barbary Coast

I'm travelling to Vegas in July and this will be the first time I'll be staying on the Strip. I'm looking for somewhere cheap and I'm undecided between the Imperial Palace and the Barbary Coast.

Thing is, I've read both good and bad things about the Imperial but I do like the idea that it has a pool conveniently situated in the hotel (as opposed to having to grab a shuttle to one of the Barbary's sister properties). On the other hand the rooms at the Barbary look nicer.

Can anyone with experience give advice on the best place to stay?

    Thanks.

    sdplayer,

Sorry I can't comment on staying at either since I have not, but I can tell you that you will not be able to live up to your handle of "sdplayer" at either.

Oh, I gave up on Blackjack a couple of years ago. It's getting harder and harder to find playable single deck games these days. Texas Hold-Em is looking more and more attractive.

Anyway, this trip isn't for gambling but to do a spot of skydiving at Vegas Extreme Skydiving Centre (I may post a trip report at a later date).

Thing is, we don't mind staying in a run down place as long as it is clean and safe - however I've read stories about people staying at the Imperial who have developed rashes from bed bugs.

I would prefer the Imperial over the Barbary Coast but bed bugs we can do without. I know the place has remodelled itself recently but does anyone know if it still has a problem with carnivourous residents?

Check out CheapoVegas.com for their reviews of both places; it might help since they review the rooms as well as the casinos. I've never stayed at either, though I've enjoyed the breakfast specials at Barbary Coast in the past.

I stayed at both places several years ago, and Bar U would be the better choice. IP's rooms are like a giant maze to find, and certain ones are downright ghetto. I ended up with a tiny room facing the carport. I remember that room only cost $50, so you get what you pay for.

The Barb has very tasteful rooms, Victorian style. My bathroom window had the colorful stained glass, like I was at church or something, which was uniquely cool. The elevator to the rooms are right next to the table games..very easy access. Just ask for the higher-floor rooms away from the Strip, to avoid the noise.

Look at cheapovegas.com for a review of any hotels, sq. ftge casinos, rm. quality etc.. you wish to look at. If your flying I hope you have reservations, check the hotel at its' web site to see if there are vacancies. I'm going to wait and go in Sep. flight too high due to summer travel and fuel cossts in summer. Good Luck.
One place we always go is N/Y N/Y for Subway the 2 of us split 1 gigant roast beef sub. at their deli.

    Thanks for the advice everbody.

After all that I've decided against the Imperial (too worried about bed bugs) and the Barbary (too inconvenient to get to a pool) and have instead booked a garden room at the Tropicana (great looking pool).

I just hope the reviews I've read about poor to non-existant air conditioning in the garden rooms proves untrue, it will be July afterall.
