    Bettie: Next week

While I had hoped to go Thursday night (you could technically get in after 9pm), I ended up not making the trip and don't plan to hit a new casino on Superbowl weekend ? it's just too crazy, with the celebrities and the meet and greets. I'm not exactly a crowd-type person, even though I love casino openings in general.

I'm going to try to fit it into my schedule next week so I can get some info into Trackjack, though. I'm sure someone else here will beat me to a public post, though (and of course the jokes about counting all hands as "plus2"!).

    Bettie: Conditions Semi-Report

I'm calling this a semi-report because I checked out the games but didn't take notes. It was pretty crowded, the atmosphere was frat-house, and I was hanging out with a friend.

So, Hooters looks like a rec room from a house in the Midwest built in the 70's. Those of you from the Midwest will understand this. My friend told me that all Hooters restaurants look like this, but I thought it was awful. Tacky light pine paneling covered the entire casino, the ceiling was very low, with exposed ductwork, and the furniture was tacky, even in the VIP check-in where the seating was cushy office chair style, like at my accountant's. Over one of the pits were 2 huge chandeliers that were completely out of place with the rest of the decor, like some Midwest farmer's wife tried to fancy up the rec room.

The place is really small, with 3 tables in a crowded poker room, a very small sports book hidden behind a bar, and restaurants all around the perimeter (oh, and I'd never used their parking structure before, but am I glad I have a very small car!). I don't think it was this small when it was San Remo. All of the restaurants must have taken up a lot of space in the renovation. There looked to be a nice martini bar, but we were told there was a private party going on. Actually, it was only "private" for anyone who spent money on a Hooters calendar that the girls were signing. So, basically a $20 or whatever pricetag to get in.

A lot of it was unfinished. Banks upon banks of slot machines were closed, there was an unfinished small pit area, circle banks of slots would be completely unfinished in the center. Not just empty, like they were waiting for signage, but with exposed flooring and electrical work. A store (I think) was closed, and there was a sign for a keno lounge and chapel coming soon. I am not making this up, but it had to be a joke.

On to the games. Roulette, craps, 3 card poker, Emperor's choice or something like that, Texas Shootout, or whatever that blackjack/poker hybrid game is, and blackjack, of course. No single deck, but they had double deck super fun, as well as some hand-held DD games. No mid-round entry, no even money, double on 10/11 only, one spot per player. The signs for these games were printed, so either this was special paranoia for opening weekend or the signs weren't made for those games yet. Tables had 6 spots and they dealt 2 rounds.

There is a pit called the Calendar Girls games, but I think it's commonly called the Hooters pit. All of the dealers were Hooters girls, so go there soon and take advantage of the some of the sloppiest dealing you've ever seen! Those tables were all CSM, and one table only had the very strange sign that there was no mid-round entry. On a CSM game. In what universe does this make sense?

The other pit had the shoe and hand-held games. The shoes were 6 decks, and I saw pen at 4.25 to 4 decks, closer to 4.25 the majority of the time. I really didn't check out the rules on those tables, since I had a drink in me by that time.

Video poker inventory was pretty bad. First off, there are very few vp machines, and I mean VERY few. Four by the elevators were closed, 3 tucked away at the $1/$5 limit were closed, and I saw only a couple other banks of 4 machines each. Nothing that I saw was multi-line, and the best game I saw was a 8/5 J-B game on a multi-game machine. Actually, everything I saw was a multi-game, multi-denom, single-line machine.

They did have some multi-action machines I sat at for a few minutes while waiting for a cocktail waitress. You pay to play 3 times - once on the deal, once on your draw, and a third time when the machine deals you 2 more cards and you play a poker-type hand, with some kickers. I left it to head for a bar when I couldn't get any service. At the bar, I put some money in the machine, but was still charged for my drink. I don't know if it was because I was a woman or what, because they didn't charge the guy next to me, but I didn't bother asking or caring because it'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever go back anyway.

If you are a young white guy, check it out with your buddies and have fun (but don't expect to get any action away from the tables). If you are a middle-aged white guy, you'll still fit in. All women who didn't look they worked there looked out of place (all 20 of us), and I only saw 1 woman over the age of 40 (with her husband, but that song from Sesame Street popped into my head anyway. You know, "One of these things is not like the others...") I was complimented on my outfit once and called beautiful by some drunk, so the 300 to 1 guy/girl ratio isn't all bad!

So, that's my report, take it or leave it or wad it into a little ball of paper and stick it where the sun don't shine!

    Bettie: Almost forgot!

In the Hooters Girls pit, they offer a side bet called "Super Pairs"! It pays 30 to 1 for a suited pair in diamonds (I would've chosen hearts), 15 to 1 on any other suited pair, and I forget what on any pair.

    Dog Hand: DD Question

...some hand-held DD games. No mid-round entry, no even money, double on 10/11 only, one spot per player... Tables had 6 spots and they dealt 2 rounds.

    Bettie,

Six spots and only TWO ROUNDS??? So the penetration is 2*(6+1)*2.7 = 37.8 cards, for a whopping 36%?

Also, the "No Even Money" qualification forces me to ask... do naturals pay 3:2?

No wonder you won't be going back anytime soon!

AutomaticMonkey: I would certainly hope they have DD at Hooters

And it wouldn't be right for it not to be a hand-held game.

I saw it happen with 2 different dealers at 2 different tables, almost like they were dealing round of 6, but for DD. It made no sense. This was only at the tables with the handmade signs, so I wonder if it was an opening weekend only kind of thing, along with stricter rules.

    > Also, the "No Even Money" qualification

Except at the "Super Lame" table, yeah. You just couldn't ask for even money on your blackjack versus an ace. You'd have to take insurance instead.

BTW, I realized that I forgot to mention table limits. Most tables were $15 or $25 minimum, and I didn't notice the max. I assuming/hoping that someone will be heading there soon and can clarify the rules and limits, and hopefully say they relaxed their DD rules/deals a bit.
