    Count of Montecristo: Plaza

Does anyone know what the new ownership of the Plaza will do to the games there when they take over? Don't know the history of the new owners, thanks.

The Plaza doesn't exactly have "new owners" at this time. It (along with the Las Vegas Club, Western, and Gold Spike) was purchased by Barrick Gaming and Tamares Group from longtime owher Jackie Gaughan, with Barrick handling the day-to-day management and Tamares putting up a good chunk of the cash.

Last June, Tamares essentially told Barrick "You're fired" and bought out its interest in the casinos. A problem: Tamares, a London-based consortium, has no gaming license and no experience running casinos. They have contracted with Navegante Group to take over the management of the casinos. Navegante is owned by LV casino veteran Larry Woolf, who has been involved with various Caesars properties, the Venetian, Bally's, and several other casinos around the world. Gaming approval for Navegante to manage the Barrick properties is pending.

Meanwhile, Tamares is also said to be shopping the properties around through Las Vegas broker Resort Properties of America, who allegedly has several interested potential buyers.

    Confused? So am I.

Short answer to your question: No.

Thanks Parker, that sheds some light on it for me. I was just there and noticed that some of the tables still had the Barrick on them and some didn't. I asked about it and was told that new ownership was taking over at the end of January. Every trip I make to Vegas, the table conditions are worse than the previous trip. It seems I play less hours each time because there are less fair/playable games. It's pretty disheartening, hope the Plaza game stays fair.

Well, strictly speaking I guess it is a change of management rather than ownership, but to the employees it's all the same: new bosses, changes, turmoil and a lack of job security.

Games come and games go. Remember, a couple of years ago, neither the Plaza nor the (Las) Vegas Club offered anything even marginally playable. Binion's, while not reminding anyone of the "good old days" when Benny ran the joint, is certainly much improved now that Harrah's is out of the picture. The Wynn offers some decent games, for those with sufficient bankroll.

Checked out the Plaza two weeks ago. Their double deck games are very good (resplit A 4x, 80% pen), but they're a sweatshop. Had only one $25 table and the PCs were watching it like hawks. They've got me in their database, so didn't play there on my trip.
