Bettie: Various LV Tidbits for September
I?ve taken the following information from the very informative Viva Las Vegas Newsletter (along with some personal info). To subscribe, go to http://www.VegasResource.com. If you need hours, directions, or prices, call the appropriate place/person.
The very beautiful Patriotic Summer Flower Celebration in the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens at Bellagio will end September 13th, so make sure to catch a look, if you have not yet done so. One area has flowers arranged to look like the US flag, waving!
The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts is running their Monet exhibit through January 9th, 2005.
If you like the Rolling Stones, the Jack Gallery at Mandalay Bay is displaying artwork by guitarist Ron Wood through the end of the month.
Mandalay Bay will be opening the Fleur de Lys restaurant next to Aureole this week. (Does this mean the wall of body parts is gone? I haven?t been there in awhile.)
The Rio buffets are offering half-price specials to all locals the month of September. One local ID is good for 3 people.
The Wet 'n Wild Water Park closes permanently on September 26th to make way for a 3,000 room high rise hotel/casino with a nautical theme called Palace of the Sea. Some high-priced hotel rooms will be on yachts, which will be moored in a man-made bay in front of the hotel.
UNLV is offering a 6-week class on ?Sports Betting: How to Win Betting on Football,? from September 29th through November 3rd. Class instructor is Stephen Nover, a longtime local, and respected writer on sports betting. One hour classes every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. More information and sign-up available at:

Plaza opens a new Italian restaurant this month called Marco Manetti's.
Mandalay Bay just keeps getting hotter and hotter. Forty Deuce, an L.A. hot night club, is opening in the Mandalay Place Retail Mall this month. The "back-alley, striptease lounge" features trained dancers that do a strip tease using the bar as a runway and a live, three-piece ?bump-and-grind? band. They will also open the Mix restaurant on the top floor of the new THEhotel this month. Mix will offer a full dinner menu before turning into a nightclub at night.

college kid: Thanks Bettie!!!
I didn't even hear about that sports betting class! Gaming Management 2 taught by Kilby here is a good overview of the sports books, and getting to the class you mentioned will be a perfect suppliment to that! Awesome!!!

Bettie: Another "Yummy" Tidbit
I found this in today's LVRJ, and, after watching a Food Channel show on "Best Places to Pig Out," was inspired to add this info for anyone looking for food downtown.

The Big Daddy Barrick Burger at the Plaza Diner at ? you guessed it ? the Plaza, 1 Main St., weighs a whopping 9 pounds ? including two tomatoes, two onions, four pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, 12 slices of cheese and half of a head of lettuce, all on a 12-inch bun. It's $29.99, but free if you can finish it ? and you get 24 hours to do it.
The Diner also offers a 1-pound Barrick Burger ? with triple the fixin's of a normal burger ? for $8.99. Finish it in 30 minutes and you'll be featured on the Barrick Burger Wall of Fame.
