Sonny: Anyone checked out out the new Barric properties?

Has anyone visited the LVC, Plaza or Western since the switch? I am on good terms with many of the employees there. Have they changed the dealers or pit crews? I would hate to have to re-cultivate my act at all of those places. Worse yet, I am worried that their games will not be worth playing anymore.

    Any word?

Actually stepped into LVC and Plaza the weekend after the takeover. Unfortunately, I wasnt a regular of either one of those places before, so I couldnt say if they have changed much. I can say the LVC still has tons of single deck, decent penetration, although they are no longer hand shuffled (I seem to remember them being hand shuffled last time I was in there, which was quite some time ago). A machine exactly like the ones used for the fake double/single decks are used, but with alternating deck colors so you know it isnt a fake. Could be a sign of things to come? I dont know, again I am not sure how long they have been shuffle machines at LVC.

The Plaza was decent, had a short asian guy who could not pronounce english very well doing some 70s funk in the club, that was probably the highlight. Single deck was scare, Double deck was less then optimum penetration. I wouldn't say the pit crew was giving heat, but they began to stare me down after an hour or so. Which was ok because I was on my way home anyway

All in all, seems like they are still decent properties (unlike what I hear about the Horseshoe, I refuse to call it Binions any longer). It will be interesting to see what happens in the future...

There will undoubtedly be changes, but I do not think that you will see anything sudden or radical.

Unlike the 'Shoe, these places were operating and profitable at the time Barrick bought them.

Also, this deal was first announced nearly a year ago. All that just happened is that Nevada Gaming gave their final approval, allowing the transfer of ownership to become official. Barrick has actually been calling the shots at these properties for several months.

Finally, unlike Harrah's, Barrick has relatively little gaming experience, and none in Nevada. They have wisely left most of the existing management in place, at least for the time being.

    Parker: More on Barrick

Barrick has a spiffy new website.

Not only that, they have updated the websites for the Plaza, LVC and Gold Spike, and now . . .

    (drumroll)

The Western actually has a website!

Admittedly, it looks like an afterthought - it is not nearly as sophisticated as the other websites.

You can find links to all of them at Barrick's corporate site linked below.

You will need a Flash-enabled browser for the full effect.
