    Parker: Gotta love Cheapovegas.com

One of my favorite websites, www.cheapovegas.com, has wasted no time in updating their review of the Horseshoe, including the following quote:

The casino is full of dark woods, with low ceilings, dark lighting, and the ghosts of gangsters and other unsavory characters floating around, including a very pissed off Benny Binion.

Indeed. Link below for the complete review

Any word on if Harrah's has replaced the 40 watt bulbs in the reading lamps?

I just returned from a week in vegas(apr12-17) spent mostly downtown and I have to say Cheapovegas has it pretty right on Binion's. I hadn't been to LV in 13 years so knew there would be changes but was surprised at the lousy BJ offerings at the 'shoe. Looks like Harrah's has brought the strip to the old gambling venue unfortunately. Too bad, because I thought I read online when they reopened that the exec's said they wanted to bring Binion's back to the way it used to be. I remember 1 and 2 deck blackjack predominating but what I saw last week was the single deck 6:5 and a bunch of shoes. Unfortunately, as mainly a BJ player I took my BJ gambling money to other downtown casinos. The dealers at Binion's are top notch...too bad they have to work with Harrah's running them. Here's hoping MTR changes things when they take over in a few years. Looks like Harrah's will take the World Series of Poker and the Horseshoe name and leave MTR with the old building and ghosts. With the good employees MTR needs to get back to attracting gamblers to the old place. Wish them luck. Hope Binion's succeeds and changes for the better at some point.

I realize all of downtown has changed too in its gambling offerings. Guess I've been away a bit too long when I sat down and saw the "Dealer hits Soft 17" on all the tables.

Oh,one weird thing that I noticed different after 13 years away from Binion's......it seemed so much less smokey in there than the ol' smokey gambling joint I remember. Just one of those things that I associated with going to Binion's!

    You did. They lied.

As well you should. Real single deck games can still be found at the Las Vegas Club, Golden Nugget, Four Queens and El Cortez.

At least now they know that money withheld from their paychecks for medical insurance, etc., is actually going to the appropriate providers.

Don't hold your breath. MTR is the proud owner of the Speedway casino in North Las Vegas. Ever been there? If not, you haven't missed much. Trust me.

You've really been gone a long time. Even 20 years ago, blackjack rules in Las Vegas were loosely defined as "strip rules" (dealer stands on S17) and "downtown rules" (dealer hits S17).

Probably because it isn't nearly as crowded. Also, pit critters are no longer allowed to smoke on the floor. Harrah's also removed many of the slot machines and BJ tables.

On a recent visit I even observed a live band in the area where the sports/race book was formerly located. Live entertainment at the 'Shoe!

    Sigh.

Another shock like that one, and I'll be playing poker with Benny in that big game in the sky.

They sure did. Noticed they have Harrahs dollar coins in their dollar slots.

You're right. Binion's was always the place to go for BJ in my opinion so its sad to see what it has become. I did find some good single and double deck downtown and actually turned a BJ profit in my visit. LV Club had a weird table...maybe I'll start a thread about it later.

Also, I found some BJ downtown that payed even money on BJ's... Yikes! Lady Luck...shame, shame

Yeah, Becky made a mess out of that place it looks. The old man must have turned in his grave. Heard she even sold the million in 10K bills for a profit. A candy vending machine sits in the back of the casino where thousands of people had their free photo taken next to the million..... wow, it was an eye opening re-visit back to Binion's!

Nope, never been there and probably won't. Sorry to hear this

Yeah, I noticed the stage in the area where the race/sports book once was. It was particularly sad to see being that I was there on the day they opened that race/sportsbook and placed one of the first bets there. Still have the white baseball cap they gave away that day.

    Sighs indeed....
