kasey: Danny Gans closed until April 6th

The Mirage ticket office just called to tell me Danny Gans has closed his show until April 6th.

I was so flummoxed, I didn't ask why.

    Anyone know what's going on?

Doesn't he ever go on vacation?

Actually, he does nothing BUT cancel his shows. He very consistently cancels for illnesses, back problems, and other physical maladies. It's fodder for the gossip column on a regular basis. Like most other Strip shows, his official vacation is in Winter, when the tourist season is at an all-time low. It's very unusual for a performer to take of for nearly a month, though I hadn't heard anything about it in the paper.

Gans is sort of an enigma to the other performers. He sponsors his own charitable events, but regularly refuses to be involved in group-performer situations. His frequent cancellations have done little to stunt his popularity with the tourists, though local word is that they are part of an overall work slow-down in order to negotiate better terms or a bigger space with The Mirage.

    Only time will tell.

According to today's (3/18) newspaper, he fell over his dog in the middle of the night, suffered a concussion, and is recovering from 12 staples to close a head wound.
