Battery: BINION'S HORSESHOE: Deal with Harrah's finalized
At a Thursday news conference in the Poker Room at the landmark downtown property, Harrah's President Gary Loveman said the agreement was signed late Wednesday night and that the transaction should be completed by the end of the first quarter, subject to regulatory approvals.
I take that to mean the reopening will be April at the earliest.

Hopefully, Harrahs will keep the reasonably good SD games and add some class to this overgrwon sawdust joint.

An I have 20 $1 checks from the Shoe. I wonder if Harrah's will honor them? Anybody know?

Apparently you did not bother to read the article:
He also said chips held by players will be redeemable at the Horseshoe once it reopens but, for now at least, will not be redeemable at other Harrah's properties. Any other plan for redeeming chips will have to be approved by regulators, he said.

Hal Jordan: Hold the Chips...
Those chips will be worth more much more if you simply put them away and allow them to age. Knowing that the Shoe would soon be closing, I loaded up on chips and locked a bunch of them away.
I have determined that because Vegas does not respect its own history, items become much more valuable at a much quicker pace than in other collectible arenas. I wish I would have known this before the Sands left this world.
Keep the chips. If things go as I anticipate your $20 investment will profit you somewhere in the neighborhood of $360 in about five years. No, it is not big money, but it is positive EV. Just like any investing in stocks, or blackjack play, it is all about volume.

Hal Jordan: Wishful Thinking
I totally agree with your wishful thoughts, but unfortunately I think with the tattered carpeting will go their sense of playable SD games. I picture a Disneyesque casino with Mickey Mouse games.

Unfortunately, Harrah's does not have a good track record in this area. Can you say, "Rio?" I knew you could.
BTW, the 'Shoe had all the class in the world in the years prior to Becky assuming control. Far from being a "sawdust joint," the 'Shoe was the very first downtown "carpet joint."
Of course, Benny Binion was occasionally known to forget that he had had carpet installed, and spit on the floor. :-)

Any place, which has players beaten up, is a dust joint.

Hal Jordan: Re: Wishful Thinking
Agreed. What does this have to do with the type of game that Harrah's will offer?
