    bildi66: Wages in Vegas

Just a question for some who may live and work in LV.

A friend's son has moved to LV, attending UNLV, and working at a Sportsbook at one of the larger, downtown casinos.

He was told (don't know by whom), that if he gets a degree in Casino Management, and gets hired by that casino as an entry level manager in that Sportsbook; he will make 75K a year after one year, and 150K a year after two years.

Now this seems pretty farfetched to me, but yet he says he has a "connection".

My question is: is this possible, or is someone shoveling a load of BS (my opinion)?

Is there anyone out there who can shed any light on this?

    Thanks....... bill

When I was in Vegas a few months ago I was told by the Valet who parks cars that he make over $100k per year. I don't know if that was the truth but that's what he said.

According to the TV show "Las Vegas" the valet can make more parking cars than being a mechanical engineer. Looks like I should change professions.

    Parker: Vegas wage inflation

Well, he got one part right. The "juice" is very much alive in Las Vegas. Landing a management position depends not on what you know, but who you know.

However, the "downtown" part sounds fishy. I doubt that many downtown casino managers make $150K/year, let alone sports book managers with two years experience.

In addition, nearly every downtown casino has either recently changed ownership, is in the process of changing ownership, or is hotly rumored to be about to change ownership. I think most casino management personnel are uncertain whether they will still have a job in a year, let alone double their salary.

Not really. None of the new owners' plans call for demolition/rebuilding, so most employees just take things one day at a time and hope that they will still have jobs under the new ownership.
