Bettie: New South Coast Casino Plans

I think I'd posted here previously about the Coast Casinos' plans for South Coast on the LV Strip south of The Silverton. At the time, they weren't letting on to any of their plans, but have now let the cat out of the bag.

It's to cost $325 million, more than the Green Valley Ranch or the Palms. And the cost is likely tied up in the amenities they'll provide: movie theater, bowling hall, equestrian arena, bingo hall, and convention space. The casino will be 100,000 square feet and the hotel will have 750 rooms.

Coast Casinos Chairman Michael Gaughan says that the goal of South Coast will be to attract a younger crowd, but I don't think bingo and horses are going to do it. Younger than the hip-replacement crowd, maybe, but not the money-to-burn LA Brats that fill the town every weekend. Not unless they turn the bingo hall into a nightclub and the equestrian arena into a spa.

The casino is slated to open in mid-2005.

How are the LA Brats gonna play bingo on horseback when they have a drink in each hand all the time anyway? Those young people (the ones that think they can drink anwyay) make weekend nights in Las Vegas a real pain. My next trip will be a Monday through Friday and I am quite sure it will be more enjoyable than another weekend in a strip casino surrounded by a bunch of drunks.

hip hop: I wonder who the casino wants more,

an advantage player who will win at the tables, win at the comp game and doesn't like too many drunks around OR A bunch of LA brats with too much money, too much booze and very little brains? I'm guessing the latter. How about Branson? ;-)
