Bettie: Coast Casinos building 5th LV Casino

Coast Casinos is to start building Southcoast, on the LV Strip, south of the Silverton. Link to toay's R-J story below.

Usually I'm skeptical about the prospects for new casinos. But I like this idea- good location, growing area, not much competition, first nice casino geographically in Vegas coming in from the I-15. I don't think that even the Coast Casinos can screw this up.

Indeed. You left LA six hours ago, fought your way through the construction between Victorville and Barstow, and have been looking at desert since Barstow. Passing Primm and then Jean whets your appetite as darkness falls.

Finally, you round the curve near Sloan, and you can actually see it off in the distance. Even though you are still ten miles away, you can make out Mandalay Bay, Rio, the MGM, the stabbing light from the Luxor, and of course, the Stratosphere.

Your excitement builds until you actually reach the first casino . . . um, the Silverton?

Definitely a need for something better here. :-)

Indeed. About a year ago - maybe more - I had heard that Stations was looking to build South Station (a working name only) in the same area, and then I never heard another thing about it. Perhaps this was a pre-9/11 idea that never made it out of the back burner.
