Nero Dog: Downtown Bet Spreads
Let's say I want to use a $25.00 unit at downtown single deck. What kind of bet spread can I get away with? I'd guess 1-4 or 1-5. Would I need to worry about cover?
Thanks,

I was downtown last week, and got away with hours and hours of SD 6:1 spread, mostly at LVC, the Shoe, and DD 8:1 at 4Q. However, I was playing red as was most of the rest of the table, thus did not stand out.
Playing Green to Black SD, might suggest 3:1...more if there are bigger fish or better yet, whales, at the same table.
Hope this is helpful.

1-4 will fly at most places. Occasionally bet bigger off the top, keep your sessions short, and you should be okay without using a lot of cover.
Spreading green, you will be watched closely in the El Cortez or the Western because you will probably be the biggest action in the place.

Red action is an entirely different scenario.

Better to have the bigger fish at a different table, but in the same pit. The pit boss will be turned away from your table, and the eye should be as well. I think your best bet for this method is still the Horseshoe. I've seen guys get away with more than 1-4 in green for several hours straight, provided there was an umbrella player in the pit. As always, short session is recommended.

What's a short session? I'd like to play long enough to get comps.

A "short" session is an hour or less.
Like anything, there is a trade-off here. You can play longer and earn more comps, but you will need to give up a little EV in terms of more conservative spreading and and/or the occasional cover play.
There are so many food and room bargains downtown that I think a green chip bettor is probably further ahead to forego the comps and play the short sessions at maximum EV.
Of course, you have nothing to lose by asking for a coffee shop comp at the end of your session. :-)

T-Hopper: Long sessions
I like to think of downtown as one big casino with lots of pits and places to cash in.
