Viktor Nacht: Any Fellow Mac OS X Users in Here?
The 3-4% of Mac traffic per month can't just be Bettie and I. Please chime in if you're a fellow Jobsian. I have some Mac-shit-related things I'd like to post, assuming there's an actual audience.

There is at least ONE more . . . I'll try to keep up.
PS, thanks for the Pix and reviews of new games!

Magician: What do you think of the Mac mini?
-
Parker: Brilliant
I don't know how good the product is, but from a marketing standpoint it is a stroke of genius.
When someone who has not previously owned a computer decides that they want to take the plunge, they typically buy a bargain-priced unit from the local chain outlet (Best Buy, etc.) or mom & pop store, for around (surprise!) $500. Previously, they did not consider Macs because they were so much more expensive.
In a year or two they become frustrated with the limitations of the cheap PC and want to upgrade. However, they are now familiar with Windows, and likely to stick with a PC rather than hassle with learning a new operating system.
With the Mini, Apple can now go after these entry-level customers with a competitively priced product.
The fact that it's cute as hell doesn't hurt, either. :-)
I may even buy one.

Viktor Nacht: It looks damn cool...
But as an Apple shareholder, I think they really needed to include some kind of cheap monitor at that price, or bump it up a hundred bucks with a monitor. The entry level Mac monitor is still$1K. So someone walks into an Apple store (real or online), buys a $500 computer, and then what kind of monitor? Samsung, Acer, etc.?
I'm predicting it will have the same half-life as the Mac cube, visual pun intended. Hopefully I am wrong, and they quickly follow-up with a cheap 15 or 17" monitor to go with it. The only thing I can guess is that Jobs is assuming people are replacing their PCs so they can match their iPods, so they already have monitors.
Of all the recent product announcements, I'm the most geeked about iPhoto 5, since I've been wanting hierarchal albums for awhile. I also hope iDVD will let me add pre-encoded MPEG2s, instead of making me convert to DV and then re-encode.
Good Cards,

You mean everybody doesn't have 2 or 3 extra monitors lying around the house like I do?
Seriously, I think that they should bundle it with an inexpensive 15" LCD monitor and a compact keyboard for a nifty package that would not take up much space on the desk.
