The pen sucks (essentially rule of 5), but it is still a pretty decent game because of the rules: 3:2 BJ payout, H17, DA2, DAS, and late surrender. There are not many single deck games around with DAS and surrender. The off-the-top house edge is essentially nil with perfect single deck basic strategy.

The pit at Barona is quite sharp, and does indeed watch the single deck games closely (which is not to say that they ignore any of the games). However, they don't sweat small action. If your max bet is under $500 or so, you don't spread too brazenly or camp out, and you toke the dealer now and then and don't annoy the high roller regulars, you can play there for quite a while.

The poor pen makes for a lot of variance, though, and the game can take some really wild swings. Trust me on this one.

Exactly... the favorable rules make up for the crummy penetration. A level 2 ace-neutral count with more indices and a 1-3 spread gets a cScore of 55.
