    WallStRunoff: Counter Encounters

I've logged nearly 90,000 hands and I've had only about 7-10 encounters. I suspect there were about 15 or so others that were borderline or not clearly identifiable givin the counts we mutually encountered. Im guessing this is probably becuase most counters are on the red tables, where I ussually don't play unless I have to.

I'm guessing I've seen about 1 or 2 hundred or so pretenders (people who claim to be professionals or CCs and play completely wrong). Given what I've seen, the casinos are way to uptight about us. We are indeed an endangered species. Just last week, a guy said his 'calculus' told him the tens were coming out when the deck was -5 (it had been -10 so I guess he was basing his opinion on the last deal). He bet a stack of green for three hands in a row and the small cards poured out. The count then went to +5 and I said "what's your calculus saying now? There must be all 10s left" and raised my bet to table max on three hands . I lost the hands and the count climbed yet higher so I kept betting away as he began to look despondent.

This is very true. The vast majority of counters or wannabe counters or people who consider themselves pros because they bought a voodoo progression system, are not winning players. Below, you mention one of the keys to becoming a winning player, being able to get your butt kicked in a positive count, while continuing to spread according to the count.

Of course there is more than this. Many people pick up a counting system but fail to learn basic strategy perfectly. Some do not learn indices. Others play bad games and still others fail to spread properly. Then there is still a large percentage of people you will see in casinos that are just full of it. But of course, not having the guts to put out the big bets when called for, even after losing five or six in a row, separates the girls from the women.
