    GreyHawk: basic strategy

Basic strategy varies considerably from single deck to multiple deck. Are all multiple decks,(2,4,6 or 8), played with the same basic strategy? Thanks.

    Wolverine: Re: basic strategy

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: Single deck, double deck and multiple deck (more than 2) is how BJA3 breaks down BJ games for the number of decks used. Then the other rules are included and it creates a matrix of a dozen or more 'basic strategies' that are employed vs. each "game." Rules variations examples would be: dealer hit or stand on soft 17, double after split, resplit aces, double on 10 or 11 only, etc...

Single deck given a certain set of rules has its own BS.

Double deck has its own BS.

Multiple deck has its own BS.

And to really throw fuel on the fire, the I18 indices are all different for 1D, 2D, and MD!

    Hope this helps.

No, basic strategy for multi-deck games is further subdivided by various rules the casino will have, such as DAS/NO DAS, H17/S17, INS/NO INS, DA2/D9-11, etc.

(I forgot to add, the first link listed is for bjmath.com, it will take you to their home page. From there click on "Novice Corner", then "Basic Strategy", then the whichever Basic Strategy chart you want to view).

Many experts say most of the multi-deck BS strategy differences are quite small in actual usage, it may be best to learn one and stick with it, rather than make mistakes when trying to learn several different ones.

The wonders of the Basic Strategy Cards sold in casino gift shops:

On my last trip to Vegas I decided to visit the shops in 6 different strip casinos. Ones belonging to the same ownership group had I think the same cards. There were cards for single deck and four deck or multi-deck.
There were cards that were for multi-deck with NDAS sold in casinos where all multi deck games have DAS!
There were cards for single deck that had no mention of 6/5 payout in casinos where every SD game pays 6/5!
There were cards for S-17 in casinos where every game, except high roller games, are H-17.
None of this comes as a surprise, since most dealers and pit types do not know BS for any of the variations of blackjack. But I do wonder if it is done purposely.
P.S. I did find there are some that actually do match the game offered.
Also, if basic strategy is so mystical to most, imagine just how incomprehensible counting is to the average player.

Radar: Suggestion: Don's BJ Strategy Cards

Just got mine and was impressed. Not the run of the mill BS card out there. (Multi-card hand variations)

DD strategies are different from multi-deck. (and should be) Also, rule variations play a part in each. These cards have it broken down nicely.

You can get them here from Bettie.
