    Jack Fate: Tunica conditions

Heading to Tunica for the first time at the end of the month. I ran a search for the past 6 months to get a feel for whats going on. Hotel wise it looks like either the sheraton or the Terrace at the Grand would be good choices. I hear Harrahs bought the Shoe and I'm wondering if they got the place screwed up yet. Anyone know how the hotel is at the Shoe? Also looking for the top 2 or 3 blues clubs in Memphis. Any info on heat is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all..............Jack

My experience as a red chipper, little heat. But I've seen others struggle, especially with green and black action.

Any hotel is ok. Terrace is nice but a little inconvenient as you have to ride a shuttle or drive to the casino. Plus, my experience in finding good bj there was not good.

Gold strike is nice as well. I stay at Fitz which is by far the low class joint of Tunica but it is usually (usually) clean, the food is improving, and you should never have to pay for anything because they will comp everything. The shoe is has higher limits on the single bj but still appears to be a good game. They have an excellent buffet, especially on Friday nights.

fyi...this info is a few months old so take it for what it is.

Thanks for the help, Okie. What are the table mins at the Shoe compared to the others? If you could only play one place which would it be?.........Regards, Jack.

I stayed at the Horseshoe Tunica a few weeks ago, thought the room was nicer/fresher than ones I'd been in on previous trips (Sam's Town, Grand, Hollywood and Fitzgeralds). I hear from others that the Gold Strike, Sheraton and Grand have the best rooms, but I don't pay that much attention to the room details. I believe the Hollywood is the only one with an indoor pool, if that is a consideration. The Grand usually has pretty good prices, they are so large, have to discount rooms to keep a decent occupancy rate I guess, it's not unusual to see $29-$35 room rates there. But at the Grand hotel you can't just walk down to the casino, as it is in a seperate building from the Grand casino, about a mile away. If you play several hours each day at the same place you can get the casino room rate at any of the hotels, and with more play the rooms are comped. Just check in with a casino host and ask what level play they want to see.

I didn't see any bad changes due to Harrah's ownership, no 6:5 blackjack at the tables I played.

I saw several $5 tables at the Horseshoe, even at nite and weekends. They have the most bj tables of all the casinos in Tunica I think, there's even a pit with several tables back by the buffet entrance. They also have several $10, $15 and $25 tables, especially on pitch games, back by the casino host countertop near the main cashier windows.

Horseshoe is an exciting place at nite, the casino floor has a nearby stage with a live band that plays most of the nite. And Horseshoe is within easy walking distance of the Gold Strike and Sheraton. All the other casinos are a car or shuttle bus ride apart.

Comps are extremely easy to score at all the casinos, even for low-level players. It's best to turn in your player's card so they can track your play, I've seen them give out lunch/dinner tickets for two just based on as little as 90 minutes of red play. They are pretty friendly down there, just ask the floor person or dealer for a meal comp after an hour or two of play.

The shoe offers $5 game but it is 6 deck. I haven't seen $5 singles. Sometimes $10 single but it is covered up. Most single deck is $25 last time I was there but it seems to change every few months. The shoe, strike, and grand usually have more higher limit games. Bally's and Fitz are low roller joints. The other are between. I love the fitz because they always have several $5 DD games going and a $10 DD. The place is low class enough that the $10 table usually only has 0 or no players. Pen is varied depending on dealer so you MUST be willing to move when the 80% dealer leaves and the 55% dealer takes over.

Remember that Tunica changes every time I visit so don't just visit two or three. All casino's are worth visiting for the chance of good BJ and other types of advantage play.

    Fitz is my favorite BJ.

Sorry, didn't look. I know it's not smart but when I go to Tunica, I tend to ignore the 6 deck for a couple reasons. The real reason, I'm sick of 6 deck. A good reason - to my knowledge, no S17 left in Tunica. I believe Grand even switched to S17.

When you have the chance to play a DD with great pen, why would you play 6D?

I to like fitz for the low roller DD, but those 80% dealers are getting fewer and farther in between...good luck.

I'm going to be there this weekend for a little BJ, and to check out the World Poker Open at the GS and Shoe.

I usually don't see the same pen at 2 deckers as at 6 deck games. If the pen at the shoe games is one or fewer decks cut off I like to hit those games with a healthy spread. For fast action I kind of like the single deckers. Maybe it's just me but it seems as though if the 2 deck games are delt less than 75% I just spin wheels. Even if the 6 deckers are H17 its OK. I just increase my spread. If you get time look at the six deck pen for me. I need to bone up before I go. Haven't played in a few months. Thanks.........Jack.
