Myooligan: Is SD the best bet in Reno Area?
I'm trying to decide whether I should pick a strategy optimal for single deck or shoes. I give a lot of weight to Don's preference for shoes, but he also says that Northern Nevada might be the exception. For the time being I'll be playing red chips, but eventually I hope to move up.
Is there a general consensus on this?
muchos gracias

I think so. Reno is the place for single deck, especially for a red chip bettor. It is about the only place left in the world where nearly every casino offers single deck games (real single deck, with a 3:2 BJ payout) and some casinos offer nothing else. The shoes are generally poor, with the dealers universally hitting soft 17, and surrender nonexistant.

Is it possible to do any kind of team play on single deck games?

Sure. The simplest type of team play is when a group of players pool their bankrolls and then size their bets according to the total BR. They each play independently.
If you mean a spotter/call-in sort of team play, this is probably not a good idea for single deck games. In a single deck game, the count can change wildly from one round to the next. Many casinos have no mid-deck entry, and even at the ones that don't, the locals can get pretty hostile when someone jumps in and "messes up the cards."

Does this result in less heat on shoe games? My thinking (hoping?) is that a spotter/BP team might exploit the pit's assumption that counters will avoid shoe games, or go to Vegas for them.
Thanks Again,
