Then you'd probably prefer not to play at Harrah's, since they no longer offer either one - just six & eight deck shoes, with H17, no surrender and no DAS, making for an unplayable game. They also have SuperFun 21 and a fake DD table.

Yeah I heard about that, a damn shame. Maybe they are trying to weed out their table players, the recent changes are just a slap in the face to BJ players....

Are you sure of Harrah's change? When did that happen?

Maybe they did change as the my recent experience there was not a good one.

I was there in the first week of May on Wednesday afternoon, and they had a $5 min double deck game, H17 DAS with penetration varing by dealer, over in the smoke free pit...I was there for 45 mins & I quit when they put on a speedy dealer that dealt less than 1 deck...first dealer was a part-timer who went so slow so I could use halves and was ahead $35 in minutes. Then on came the speed dealer. She (a young woman) flung cards as if you were taking infield drill before a baseball game...and several times I had to call her back as she passed over me. I dropped $50 quickly as I could not keep up with halves, but when I fell back to hi-lo I was able to keep up and win a few hands to get even...then I noticed she was dealing to less than 50%...she must be a local legend there as the other players left soon after she came to the table. One other player continued on after I left, and she lost until the next dealer came on.

My lesson: What you read about dealer's is true...they do not administer the game uniformly and they can influence your blackjack game significantly--indeed just as referee/umpire can influence a basketball/football/baseball game. Don't play with a dealer you are not comfortable with and keep you eye on the penetration.

It happened over a month ago.

I suspect that you may have been taken in by the infamous fake double deck game. This ripoff uses a CasinoVisions Random Ejection shuffle machine that spits out slugs of two decks at a time. It holds eight decks, so the effect is playing an eight deck shoe with less than two decks penetration.

The only way to tell this from a real double deck game (which may also use the same type of shuffler) is to note the color of the backs of the cards. In a real DD game, the cards being shuffled will have different color backs than those in play. If the backs are all the same color/pattern, stay away.

There is also supposed to be sign saying "Handheld multi-deck game," although it would not be the first time if the sign happened to be missing or obscured by empty drink glasses, etc.

The really stupid part is that many dealers still deal this like a regular DD game, lousy pen and all, when they could be dealing down to the last few cards with no effect on anything.

You know, i think you are right! The cards were not shuffled on the table...instead, they came out of a machine! The dealer would take one of two double decks of cards from the machine. The other was left there for the next deal. Then once again that deck was done, there were again two decks in the machine! I thought the machine was just doing the shuffles, and this was intended to merely speed up the game.

Well, all i can say is thanks. This really was a lesson and had you not mentioned it to me, I might have returned. As is often the case in business, the man with the money gets the experience, and the man with the experience get the money. The piece of humble pie may taste bitter, but thanks to you I will only swallow this brand once!

    AdvantageRay: Well...

..Laughlin can be good, lucky for me I used to work there so I know some dealers who are..umm...I guess you could say sympathetic to my cause. Make friends with the dealers people..
they get paid even shittier then in other cities so meeting up for a few drinks after a shift and passing along a comp your not going to use for a steakhouse once in a while will get you months of good penetration....

As a side note, just a legal question, that isnt collusion is it? No cheating takes place, no additional "dealer errors" or any of that shit..
just good penetration on the DDs...is that legal?

I agree. The last time I stopped in town they were sweating anything larger than $15. Crowded tables and over-suspicious critters make this stop one to leave off the list. Just say no to Laughlin.

I would have to say that it is not collusion, just plain friendliness. Max Rubin talks a lot about passing meal comps out to Pit Critters to help out your bottom line.

AdvantageRay: Yes I am reading that one now...

IA also talks alot about this, but more with the pit crew then the dealers which is why I was unsure...

    Thanks for the response..
