    BJ21addict: California BJ

I will be in the Orange county area in March. What is a good place to play (for a day visit)? I have a recent CBJN. Which is better? in terms of rules, pen etc. Morongo? or San Manuel? or drive further down to Barona? Thanks for any help

Forget San Manuel - AFAIK they still have a per-hand collection, making their games unplayable. Morongo used to be the same way. I have heard that they recently discontinued their collection, but I haven't been up that way to verify.

The Spa casino in Palm Springs has been recently remodeled, and I have heard that the shoes there are S17 and playable.

While you're in the Palm Springs area, you could also check out Agua Caliente (same ownership as Spa), Trump 29 and Fantasy Springs.

Barona is in the eastern part of San Diego county, and is a long drive from OC. However, the casinos in the northern part of the county (Pala, Harrah's Rincon) have playable shoes, and sometimes playable DD if you can swing a $25 or $50 min bet.

On your way there, you will drive past Pechanga, which is exactly what you should do, unless you have some sort of weird fetish for 6D shoes with H17, no surrender, and two decks cut off.

Have not played many casinos in the area but did play Saboda in San Jacinto (means middle of nowhere, I think)
Not enough tables and crowded but S17,LS,with the usual rules on their 6D shoes. Penetration was decent 70-80 percent but I think I was made because they half shoed me shortly before I decided to leave.
They have a DD game which is not as good. Poor rules, early shuffles and poor penetration but the shoe game is good.

I think Soboba is about a half hour beyond the middle of nowhere, actually....

I played hooky there a few weeks ago and they did seem to have pretty nice pen on the 6 deck games, but when I was playing they were burning 6 cards.

As a newbie, I'm not sure how much impact that has on counting, but I can't say I had one of my best days there. Probably due to playing too long at the double deck game.

I didn't mention Soboba in my original post because the original poster was inquiring from the perspective of someone making a day trip while visiting in Orange County.

I would hate to see someone drive all the way out there, go to the trouble of finding the place (no easy task), only to discover that it was too crowded or some other condition existed resulting in no playable games being available.

As for the 6 card burn, I have seen several Indian casinos that do this. One casino even burned one card face up, and the value of that card determined how many more cards they would burn. In other words, if the first card was, for example, an 8, then they would burn 8 more cards (face down, of course).

All this means to the card counter is that the pen is not quite as good as it appears. Unseen cards are unseen cards, and it is no different than if the dealer took the six burn cards and placed them behind the cut card.

And that is exactly what you should try to visualize when doing deck estimation for your true count conversion.

    Sabota
Penetration is simply 5 cards less than you initially think it is and often 4 cards less because in picking up 6 cards to place them in the discard tray, almost every dealer flashed the bottom card. Not a significant difference.

The place, half hour beyone the middle of nowhere, was very crowded (a saturday). Not enough BJ tables, made wonging in difficult but probably gave you no pit attention on wonging out because there was always someone to take your seat. Did well on the 6D game, better rules than other Indian Casinos that I have gone too. Frustrated at the DD game because they seemed to change dealers very quickly and reshuffled everytime they did. Seemed that everytime the count went up, in came a new dealer shuffling the cards.

Finally in 6D a new dealer half shoed me on the cut and I knew it was time to find my way back to civilization.

dd,good pen with the right dealers,,for those that think all there is do winning is merely jacking your bet, well you can jack there as high as you want no problem...but can your bk handle it? not too crowded..
