covenut43: Basic Strategy 16v7-A
I have seen some basic strategy tables that say always hit 16 v 7-A, and some that say hit 16 v 7-A, but only if the hit is the third card, and to stand on a 16 consisting of 3 or more cards. Does this three card limit have any sound basis?
Thanks.

You're talking about what we call "composition-dependent" basic strategy, and, in this instance, it is valid only for 16 v. T, and not for the other dealer upcards.
So, yes, you'll do slightly better if you stand on your three-or-more-card 16s v. T. But, if you're not counting, always hit your 16 v. dealer's 7, 8, 9, and Ace, no matter how many cards your hand comprises.
