    MJ: Dealer procedures

When a player receives a blackjack, does the dealer automatically pay it off once the initial player cards are dealt or does he just start at first base and then pay it off when he arrives at the player BJ?

Once the dealer pays the BJ, does he immediately collect those 2 cards or does he wait until the end of the round and collect the blackjack with the other cards?

Lastly, at the end of a round once all payoffs have been made, the dealer starts at 3rd base and then collects all the cards to first base and then collects his own cards last right?

    Thanks for any clarification.

Each and every one of those is dealer/house dependent, though in most cases a blackjack will be paid as the dealer arrives at the player and the cards taken right away at that point. However, that's not a hard and fast rule, as I've seen it done otherwise on occasion. As for card pick up, that really is different in terms of starting at third or first base (usually third), though almost always the dealer will pick up their own cards last. However, even then you have to watch to see if they place them up under the players' cards or on top; again, I've seen it both ways. Any ST'er has to watch for these things intently in order to play/bet properly.

    Further to Bettie's comments...

This should depend on whether the player is allowed to double down on a blackjack or not.

If a bet is settled before the hand is complete (e.g. BJ or surrender) I believe it's standard to collect those cards immediately to prevent double payoffs.
