curious john: getting ready for casino play.

    Hello there,

I'm using the high- low count and I can count 6 decks fairly quick. Lets say for example that I wanted to make that jump to casino play and applying the counting methods (running and true count) to the tables, how would you recommend a smooth transition? Should I invest in software first? How has the forum done this?

    thanks, john

While thousands of counters have successfully made the leap from kitchen table to casino floor without benefit of practice software, such programs can certainly ease the transition. Compared to the amount of money wagered at the tables, even at red chip levels of play, the cost of such software is trivial indeed. I see no reason not to take advantage of modern technology.

There are several such programs available, but Casino Verite is head and shoulders above all the others. You can find my detailed review of this product in "The Blackjack Library" (link in the frame at left - see "Table of Contents").

Once you are comfortable playing the practice software, add distractions. Turn on the radio, TV, etc., and try to engage other members of your household in conversation while playing and keeping the count.

Once this has been mastered, you are ready to move up to live casino play. The top priority for your first experience is a table with a low minimum - at this stage, rules, penetration, etc., are of secondary importance.

At first, merely flat-bet the table minimum. Once you find that you can consistently make it through a shoe without losing the count, you can start to vary your bets with the count.

Do not be disappointed if casino distractions initially cause you to frequently lose track of the count. This happened to nearly all of us in the beginning. Proficiency will come with practice, practice and more practice.

    Ditto the software theme.

I got CV Lite a few months ago and it has accelerated my learning exponentialy. I went from practicing with flash cards and counting down cards on the kitchen table and then losing the count frequently on a 6D shoe to going through an 8D shoe without losing the count. Now counting is the game and BS is just auto/subliminal.

I cant recommend the CV lite enough. Worth every penny of the $50. I'll pick up the full blown version later.

Oh yeah I use KO and like it a lot. It compares favorably to other level one systems and is way easier to learn. No way I could do the TC having ADD. I wouldnt be counting if it wasnt for KO.

ADD kid, Parker, thanks for the help. Sorry to be a pain but I have one more question. I've almost finished Stanford Wong's 'Professional Blackjack'. I've hit a snag. When he says refer to the count on his tables for the correct play; is the count on the table shown in running count or true count?

    Thanks again.
