    iaNac: reality check

I've been simulating SD games with Vegas rules and getting an EV of about 1.3% with my system. I checked out some local casinos and they are DD games with lousy penetration (55-60%). I simulated this and got an EV of about 0.3%. I walked away but I'm wondering what kind of SD or DD EV's I should expect in real life. (My advantage play has mostly been training on the computer.)

As you are seeing, penetration is really, really important.Fortunately, there are still games to be found with good, if not great penetration.

However, you may not find them at your local casinos. In areas with only a few casinos, management has little incentive to offer good games if the locals flock to the bad games.

For example, in the San Diego area (where I live) there are 9 casinos, but only a couple have playable games. Consequently, I spend a lot of time in Las Vegas.

    Which isn't such a bad thing. :-)

While it's fairly obvious that an EV of 1.3% represents a good game while an EV of 0.3% is not so good, it's much better to compare games by SCORE than EV. Most people would consider a SCORE above 50 to represent a good game.
