can 6 and 8 deck games be beaten over the long run using card counting? and if so are the swings more or less volatile?

The more decks, the less volatile the game is. This means that positive shoes tend to remain positive longer. It is advisable to Wong out when the True count goes below -1, or even below 0. This may not always be practical, especially if you play low stakes and the casino is crowded with few spots at low minimum tables available.

    Sun Runner: Yes ..

.. but you absolutely must not play games with bad rules, shallow pen, and restricted bet spreads.

    > and if so are the swings more or less volatile?

Less; hence the need for a large bet spread. When the count does go good, you need to be able to get the bets out.

    ES: Rules

Don't play a 6 deck game in Las Vegas unles it has S17, DAS, LSR and RSA. Don't play an 8 deck game unless it has the above rules and exceptional penetration.

All 6 and 8 deck games in Atlantic City are S17 and DAS. None currently offer LSR or RSA. Most games are 8 decks.
