    el_jefe: What does RO7 mean?

I would like to compare the penetration that I see on SD games with what others report. The only problem is I don't know what RO7 means (I know it stands for rule of 7). It must have something to do with the number of hands dealt before the shuffle, but I'm not sure if it includes the dealer's hand or not. Will someone please explain. Thanks.

    Parker: Single deck penetration

Single deck games are often dealt to a fixed number of rounds, depending on the number of players at the table, rather than using a cut card. The most common level of penetration is commonly referred to as "Rule of 6." It looks like this:

(number of players at the table, not counting the dealer) + (number of rounds dealt) = 6.

So, there would be 4 rounds dealt to 2 players, 3 rounds dealt to 3 players, and 2 rounds dealt to 4 players or more players.

"Rule of 7" is the same, except with the total equalling 7. So, there would be dealt five rounds to two players, four rounds to 3 players, etc.

The average number of cards used for a single hand of blackjack is 2.7. Using this number, we can convert "Rule of ...." to percentages if we desire. For example, with Rule of 6 and three players, we are looking at 4 hands per round (counting the dealer) x 3 rounds x 2.7 = 32.4 cards, divided by 52 x 100 = 62.3% pen.

Some casinos deal "Rule of 5" which is generally unplayable. Rule of 6 is usually common in areas where single deck is offered, and is acceptable pen. Rule of 7 is of course way cool, if you can find it.
