I just finished reading, what I think was your last post this morning, but I couldn't say for sure... :-) as it is really running off my page....and as a rule, I just stop reading.

However, I don't want you to misinterpret that last comment that I want you to stop, or that I WON'T read your posts. That's not true. (but you may want to reconsider having posts running off the pages...:-) )

I kinda like your posts. And I hope you'll continue, as anyone with the CS pedigree you have is worth having around. :-)

Although it could be construed (guilty your honor) as busting your chops on the MGM DD game, my reasons were not to question your integrity, or try to be a BS detector, it's just that it had to be in error and this is the newbie page, that's all.

As I said, people make mistakes, no biggie.

The more I learn, the more I learn what I don't know, and that philosophy has served me very well. You never know where you might find little (or big) nuggets that further ones knowledge.

So don't take it personal. I think you can have some positive influence, so let it go, and continue to contribute. Let the reader(s) decide.

A point: your post didn't bother me at all. You said "you are wrong" and you offered reasons. I can deal with that. And perhaps one day an "anti-senior-moment" will arise and I'll remember exactly what happened. My wife said the only thing she remembered about my playing that day was that "I made a scene (her words) by buying into a $25 SD BJ game, getting paid 6:5 on a BJ, raising sand and leaving the table. Sorry that I was mistaken, although I will tell you it _still_ seems (to me) that the DD game was there. You said "never" and I won't argue, I just have a firm recollection that is somehow skewed sideways a bit apparently.

I can deal with Don's "you are wrong". I'd prefer to be told where, and in the Zen vs HiLo case, I really wasn't wrong at all, although that has never been admitted. Such is life.

But the more personal stuff "you can't be a professor, you couldn't possibly have been teaching 35 years," nonsense like that is simply something I don't want to deal with. The internet is _full_ of people who do nothing more than engage in that kind of nonsense, as a means to its own ends apparently...

Thanks for the comments. Food for thought. On the length of my posts, here is my suggestion. Take Don's posts, and mine, and add together and divide by 2. That will probably be a "better" length.

As I said, us "academic types" tend to be more wordy, as believe it or not, it tends to make things clearer. It is just a habit from teaching. Answers in class such as "go find this obscure paper for more details" always left me cold, and I simply refuse to do it in courses I teach myself now.

I think I'll watch for a bit, to let the nonsensical "name callers" settle down. If I see something I can contribute to, I'll give it a go. But I think I'll avoid posting questions for a while, as except for a few reasonable people (I won't name names, but many have answered questions, offered suggestions, etc) it generally turns into a acrimonious discussion.

As the director of flight operations said on the movie "Space Cowboys"...
