kevnj: Few basic questions for the newbie.

Searching the web I found a few different charts to go by. Some are for atlantic city use only and some are for the lav vegas strip and some are for off the strip. Can you explain why there are different charts for different locations.

Whats the best basic strategy chart to use? This way I dont memorize the wrong one.

I got CVBJ today was doing 83%-87% went and looked at a few different charts studied them for about an hour or so then went back to CVBJ and got 2 100% back to back followed up with a 96%. Thats where I just ended my session to come on here to ask a few questions.

So which chart is best to use ?

Also today my copy of BJA3 came. But thats not a beginners book, and that being what I am. I only looked it over. Going to Blackjack Bluebook II, by Fred Renzey,Knockout Blackjack, by Ken Fuchs or Olaf Vancura Professional Blackjack, by Stanford Wong. One of those and see where that gets me Which Parker recommended in another post of mine. But its to late and the stores closed Got cards in front of me would like to mess around for a few hours before I go to sleep and wake up and go pick up one of those books. Whats the counting method to use? 2,3,5,6 = -1 7,8,= 0 9,10,J,Q,K,A =+1 ? In one deck the count should equal 0 ?

Different areas have slightly different rules. The strategies are optimized for those rules.

Use the one for the area in which you expect to be playing. If you don't know, don't sweat it. You only lose a tiny bit of EV by using the wrong chart. Some systems, such as KO, recommend using a single "generic" basic strategy for all games, sacrificing a small amount of EV for the sake of simplicity.

See above. There are only a few differences.

Um, you'd better use the negative tags for the big cards and the positive tags for the small ones. This is important.

The count for a deck always adds up to zero in balanced counts. Hi-lo is a balanced count, KO and the KISS counts are not. No true count conversion is necessary for unbalanced counts. The tags for Hi-lo are +1 for 2-6, and -1 for ten-value cards and aces. 7, 8, and 9 are not counted.

If you want to get a jump on KO, check out the KO website (link below). The chapter on the "KO Rookie count" is reproduced in its entirety from the KO book at the website.

Thanks for the response. Book marking that site as well. I found the drills in CVBJ. and wrote down what they were. Had the right values just had the postive negative switched around.

Im trying to do the card counting drill. Not sure how exactly it works. Nothing shows up at the end letting me input what I think the count it. Tried hitting putting clicking all over the screen nothing. Always comes up with 0accuracy etc. What am I doing wrong? Or is that how this drill is ?

You first have to input the counting system that you wish to use, since Casino Verite defaults to basic strategy. Once that is done, you will see a blue grid below the card(s) on which you click on the correct number for the count.
