    davek: Deck Cut Suddenly

I was driving through Nebraska this weekend and at the Nebraska/Iowa border there are several casinos. Having never been there, and getting about time to stop for the night I figured I would check them out. I visited three casionos and only one had what looked like a promising table. It was two decks, hit S17, DAS, but no resplit of aces. What caught my eye was the amazing PEN on the deck. It was 75 or maybe even 80%. It was Saturday night and very full so I waited about twenty minutes to play. Finally I got a seat and the deck quickly became favorable. I jumped up to $125 bets ($25 unit). I won a few of those and lost a few. I think I was up two or three units after the first shoe.

Then the pit boss came over and said something to the dealer. From then on the shoe was cut in half; PEN was 50%. Even when dealers switched the PEN stayed the same.

My question here, did the pit boss do this because of me? I only won a small amount that first round. All the other players were fairly average, clearly not keeping track of the cards. It seems unlikely, considering that now fewer hands were being dealt at this full $25 table, but yet why else would he order the PEN changed? In any case it did cause me to get up and leave shortly thereafter.

By "jumped," do you mean all at once, from $25 to $125, with nothing in between? If so, that was a a very bad idea and could have prompted the pit boss's subsequent actions.

A DD game with DAS and 75% or better pen is an excellent, very countable game.

    You knew it.

    The pit boss knew it.

And, it would appear that the pit boss knew that you knew it. and acted accordingly.
