newtobj: Hitting a hard 17
I mistakenly hit a hard 17 during my last session, I got a 3 for a hard 20 and won the hand. This got me thinking that maybe hitting a hard 17 is not a bad strategy during negative counts, getting a nice low card (3 or a 4) makes a good hand. Of course one must ignore the other players who will want to have you removed from the casino for hitting the 17.

Maybe with a TC of -5 or less and if the dealer has an ace up (sounds about right ? ) . This will draw a lot of heat for nothing as this is a pretty good cover hand why waste it ?

I'm sure there is an index such that hitting hard 17 would be the correct play. But why would you be still sitting there in that low a count?

I am sure an index can be formulated but remember that those 5's and 6's are no longer little cards when you hit a hard 17 and they figured into your neg count

Coug Fan: Hi-Lo index Numbers
Per SBA for SD, H17:
Dealer 8 up = -9
Dealer 9 up = -9
Dealer A up = -4
I don't have an index for 10 up, but it is less than -9, since I set that as a limitation for my sim.
This is an index that I do not use since it draws more heat than splitting tens. Also, I would likely have a min bet out at this point, unless I was at third base and had seen alot of faces and aces before I acted.
