    Mr. Ed: Backcounting Betting Strategies

    Say you use the following betting ramp:

    <-1 0 units
    -1 1 2 3 4 5
    Now, if you backcount and jump in at +2, would you use?:

    <2 0 units
    2 3 4 5
    If not, what would you use?

    Mr. Ed: Non-mangled Backcounting Betting Strategies

    I don't know how my message got so mangled the first time...this is what I meant to say:

    Say you use the following betting ramp:

    0 units if TC<-1
    1 unit if 1>TC>-1
    2 1<=TC<2
    4 2<=TC<3
    6 3<=TC<4
    8 4<=TC<5
    10 TC>=5

    Now, if you backcount and jump in at +2, would you use:

    0 TC<2
    4 2<=TC<3
    6 3<=TC<4
    8 4<=TC<5
    10 TC>=5

    If not, what would you use?

    It's a little difficult to answer because neither of your posts provide much context. I would suggest that rather than truncating the first strategy by dropping bets at TCs < +2, it would be better to use something like BJRM or CVCX to determine the optimal pattern for the entry point and spread you want. My sense is that a 2:1 spread (in your unmangled version it's 2.5:1) is too tight even when entering at +2. Also, if there is some reason that you really did want to limit yourself to a 2:1 or 2.5:1 spread, then the bets at TCs between +2 and +4/+5 should probably be larger if the bets you cite are close to some fraction of ev*BR/var and you wanted to optimize the SCORE.

    Dear Mr. Ed,

    your suggestion of a betting ramp is a typical one, if you play six decks with 4,5/6 penetration.
    Also the backcount approach is OK. Keep in mind, that you should have about 1000 units(about 100 top bets), if you want to play to a ROR less than
    5%.
