Temporarily Anonymous: A.C. Boardwalk vs. Marina Question

hi, i will be going to A.C. soon and have the option of staying on the boardwalk or the marina. i probably won't be there again for many years, and i won't be there very long, so i was thinking the boardwalk would be nice to see. however, it'll still be cold and most of the attractions won't be open yet. i understand there's a trump casino in each place, so is there a shuttle that'll make the point moot? i can stay in one place and see both that way.

i was hoping to find a website like cheapovegas.com for A.C., but i haven't come across any, so i thought i'd ask here. thanks for any tips you can give me!

    best,
    TA

ah, the new jersey heartland (just kidding)...

If you're intersted in walking around and seeing the sights, then the boardwalk is really your only choice. the three casinos on the port side (Borgata, Harrah's and Trump Marina) are pretty far apart and do not have pedestrian walkways between them, so you'd have to drive, take a taxi or track down a jitney to get around.

while not all the boardwalk attractions are open during the off-season, most of the carnival booths and kitschy shops try to stay open and make what money they can. and then major spots like Ripley's and the Lighthouse are obviously open year-round as well.

there is no definitive (gambling-oriented) site for AC but some good places to start would be www.atlanticcitynj.com which is run by the offical AC Convention and Visitors Authority, as well as the local newspaper www.pressofatlanticcity.com. a lot of the other sites that pop up in a google search are just booking agencies who mark up the rates higher than you can probably get on your own direct.

the BJ rules at all the casinos are pretty uniform so you're not going to get a tremendous advantage from one place to another, outside of the +0.02% at borgata's low limit 6 deckers relative to 8 decks everywhere else. you can take a look at Frank Scoblete's free AC reports on www.bjinsider.com though I personally think his analysis is quite pompous and biased.

I'm guessing that the demand for a "cheapo-ac" type of site is not that big because a) there are only 12 hotels here compared to the 80+ in the LV metro area, b) none of them are particularly "cheap" to begin with (unless you're already an existing player) so bargain hunting for one-off visits is futile, and c) the majority of boardwalk gamblers are just day trippers who arrive by bus or car, and aren't picky about room quality as long as it's free.

Table Max: Re: A.C. Boardwalk vs. Marina Question

I primarily play in AC. (Just happened to look at this forum to see what was going on in other areas.) It probably depends on what you are going to be doing. If you have a car, then it doesn't really matter since you can drive to where you wish, whenever you want. If you plan on doing some casino hopping, my choice is to stay on the boardwalk. This way you can shop for shoes a while in one store and then check out the next store relatively quickly. Some of the neighboring casinos are closer to each other than others. If there is some distance between locations that you are not willing to traverse by foot, there is always the option of taking a jitney for $1.50. If you take a taxi, the max fare will be $8.00. I don't remember the rates exactly since I only take taxis when I need to travel between the boardwalk and Borgata.

IMHO, the boardwalk isn't much to see - at any time! But then again, there are those that may like to see it just for the sake of having had the experience. Yes, it is still cold. It was cold this past weekend and there was a little snow on Saturday night.

Trump has three casinos. Two of them are on the boardwalk: Trump Plaza and Taj Mahal. The other is in the marina area, aptly named Trump Marina. I don't play in Trump's casinos much anymore.

Nope, no site like cheapovegas.com for AC. :/

If you have any more questions, it may be better to post in the main forum. I am sure there are many others who frequent AC that read that forum.
