Electric Kid: Another WI Casino Raises Betting Limits

St Croix casino Turtle Lake has increased its maximum bet to $500 and is now open 24 hours a day seven days a week.

I think in many instances these small casinos raise limits and then deteriorate the games to insure against a wave of possible big losses.

They also want to guard against the heavy hitters all of a sudden showing up.

I can do fine with a $3 to $100 or a $5 to $200 game that is very playable. My max bet only being $100.

I can never figure out why so many players choose a $25 to $500 table over a $5 to $300 table. It may just be a status thing, like some equating the strength of their game by how large they bet. One having nothing to do with the other.

I like the 24 hr table games but in our neck of the woods they really make no sense in the winter months.

The $25 tables are usually less crowded.

The overall skill level at the $25 tables is usually higher. It is less likely (although certainly not impossible) that some clueless moron who has never played before will sit down and slow the game to a crawl.

It is less likely that some character will jump in and only play one or two hands (this usually seems to happen only in high counts).

Finally, in some casinos the higher minimum tables have better rules.

ET Fan: The problem I see

... with higher max bets, is that the casinos will get greedy, eventually, and raise the minimums. Higher maxes are excellent for counters, provided they keep low minimums. High mins are bad for counters, and very very bad for the average Joe.

It's incredible to me that casinos in upper WI have made very good money for years on $1-$2 tables. Yet, where demand is high -- and therefore profits assured -- greed rules; minimums skyrocket.

This is where the state should step in. What would be wrong with enforcing $1 minimums at all table games?? Of course, this will never happen. Apparantly, the object is to force patrons to pay a premium for the privilege of playing in a state sanctioned monopoly. The state is in no way looking after the tax payer, it is looking after the tax margin.

By granting monopolies to greedy casinos, the state leaves no dount as to it's role in life as the enemy of the people.

This is not a good thing for us nickel players. Higher betting limits will raise the casino's wins but it will also increase their short term risk. Somedays they will lose in the high 5 figures (which is very high for the small casinos in the area). The next step would be to eliminate the double decks and/or to take away the amazing penetration we have received for years on both the double decks and six deck games. You will notice the games being sweated more now. Casinos react very irrationally to change right away when things don't go there way (even if it is short term). I hope I am wrong...Good cards to you all.
