    Wildcard: Y'allbonics 101

Because my dear friend T-man is now a Co-Host of this page, I wanted to make sure everyone was able to properly interpret his writings. As many of you may know, T-man, aka Titaniumman was born and raised in Thomaston, GA...please don't blame him for this, it just happened that way.

Well, having lived in the south for more than 20 years (I'm originally from Lowell, MA), I have become very familiar with local jargon and dialect. Having said that, I thought that from time to time I would add a few words here and there to ensure all readers were able to correspond properly with T-man.

So, here are a few things to know when having dialog with your Co-Host. Parker is exempt from all this because he has not yet been exposed to this part of the Universe.

None of these are in any particular order, just as they come to mind...have no fear, they have not yet captured my soul, I can still "pahk the cah" with the best of them!

"shonuff" They shonuff allow multiple splits.

"git" I'm gonna color up and git.

"ya'll come" Most dealers in Tunica say this when you leave.

"set a spell" I'm gonna take a break.

    "dontcha" Dontcha wanna double down?

"fixin to" I'm fixin to increase my bet.

"yonder" Let's go to another casino over yonder.

"ugoin" Are ugoin with us to Gold Strike?

"letcha" I'm gonna letcha play heads up, I'll wait for the next shuffle.

"you'uns" Do you'uns know how to get to Memphis?

"ya'll" well this is as southern as it comes, generally singular, but has the unique characteristic of being plural, and at the same time. Could be used as "good morning ya'll" and addressed to one person, or a group. Ya'll covers a lot of stuff.

"Ill bred" This dealer is ill bred.

"nary" I haven't nary had a snapper all night.

"directly" pronounced "drectly" - We're fixin to go to Harrah's drectly.

"If'n" We can leave for Bally's if'n you want to.

"paddle" Well, I have first-hand knowledge of T-man's TOTAL lack of understanding of this word. To T-man it means slacker, drink a beer and chill, doze off, or most appropriately, why is the dude up front paddling so hard! :-)

We'll leave The Ted, The Big Chicken, nekid dog, Hotlanta, Stone Mountain and Spahetti Junction among other things for another day.

Please be easy on old T-man, he's a little slow on the intake, jes think Goober and all ya'll will be jes finer than frog hair.

P.S. If you're a college football fan, in Georgia it's the Dawgs and Tech...nothing else!

An example of T-man's sentence structure:

I was fixin to head up yonder, but had to run by the V for a nekid dog. I nary had time to set a spell, shonuff, my sweet tea was weak and I had to git. Are you'uns gonna meet at The Big Chicken before heading to the Dawgs game?

    Regards,
    Wildcard

ya'll is not singular. It is always plural although sometimes misunderstood. It is a contraction for you all. When directed at an individual it is still plural and is in reference to some group to which the individual belongs. It is rather funny when the term is used incorrectly in a movie or TV show because the writer was not from the south. I recall a line in a movie when someone said to an individual, " I saw y'all near the store." This would only be said if the speaker was talking about the group that the other person was among. It would not be a reference to an individual.

Maybe this is subject matter for a more advance y'allbonics course.
