    Yes, you can gain an edge flat betting!! To get that you will need to find a game that pays 2:1 on blackjack. Perhaps, one could use the standard deviation formula from bjmath.com(http://www.bjmath.com/bjmath/Stats/sd.htm) to determine the standard deviation. If that is not a suitable formula than I will need to do more research.

    My purpose is to make him aware that his loses fall within the range of standard deviation.

    Sure you have an edge on flat bets in plus counts but it's not the desired edge.
