    Forced encryption

Over the next few weekends, we will be experimenting with forced SSL. In the past, we offered HTTPS encryption. This is somewhat different in that ALL access to the site would be encrypted. That is, the site will only be accessible using HTTPS. This should not affect 99% of users – except that all communications with the site will be encrypted such that no one can intercept your connection or pretend to be this site. You should not notice a difference. If you have ancient software, you may not be able to access the site. As I have already changed www.card-counting.com and www.blackjackincolor.com to this, you can test in advance to see if you will have a problem by looking at those sites. There may be some other problems as VBulletin does not really support this and some changes will be needed. So, please notify me quickly of any difficulties.

The I’Net is a magnificent tool. But, the number of malevolent folk seem to be increasing. I don’t believe in succumbing to paranoia. But, I do lock my front door.

What is it you're trying to protect with the encryption, Norm?

Good question. Basically, I don't want members to feel nervous about accessing my sites in casino areas. APs tend to travel a great deal – more so these days. I think it makes sense to encrypt all communications, automatically, instead of individual members having to take upon themselves the efforts to use proactive measures, like using iffy proxies.

Again, I’m not trying to engender paranoia. Paranoia is a negative experience. My point is to increase privacy without any effort on the part of the user.

Well my dinosaur can't sign into the 2 links so my days may be numbered on this site. At least on my home computer.

You can upgrade IE or install Chrome or FireFox. All are free.

Works fine with mine. And I have a dinosaur of an old computer. Firefox transition because IE is SO SO slow. Still using Windows XP, so your computer can't be slower than mine, Three

OK, I can upgrade to a better plan that supports all browsers.

Norm, when I try to connect to www.blackjackincolor.com and www.card-counting.com I get a screen that pops up and says there is a problem with this website's security certificate. If I continue I will get to the websites. I'm on an old XP computer.

I changed those two sites to use the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA). This is a newer, superior method of encryption, not supported by IE on Windows XP or Safari before Leopard. Although you can download Chrome or FireFox. ECDSA isn't common on the web except for Bitcoin transactions.

OTOH, www.qfit.com has been changed to determine if your browser supports ECDSA, uses it if so, and falls back on the old SSL if it doesn’t. The same is planned for this site. The reason I didn’t do this for the other sites is that it costs extra.

Try www.qfit.com to see if it acts the same way.
